Every golfer’s physical capability and swing is distinctive. Many of today’s best golf clubs can be custom fit for lie angle, shaft type and length, grip type and size. Custom fitting golf clubs involves several easy measurements and a quick self-assessment of your game. This custom golf club has become more than a fad that even not so professional golfers test its waters. Custom fitting is the process for tailoring a golf club to suit your personal swing. Whatever your level, with a custom golf club the aim is to ensure that if you do make a good swing, the club will be square at impact and should produce a straight shot. Custom Golf Club How To’s: To custom fit your golf clubs, you need to know: your gender (male or female); your height in your stockings or socks; the distance from your wrist (where it bends) to the floor with your shoes off; your age; your handicap or skill level; how fast you swing a golf club; what club you use at the 150 yard marker. Gender is used to put you into the correct fitting scale for custom golf clubs. The golf industry uses different definitions of “standard length” for men and women. Your height and the distance in inches from your wrist to the floor are used together to determine the length of a custom golf club that is appropriate for you. The starting point for club length can vary up to 3 ½-inch ranging from ladies to men plus 1 ½-inch. A tall person with long arms can very easily require shorter clubs than an average height person with short arms. About 80 percent of golfers are standard length. Your age, handicap (if you happen to have one), self-assessed skill level, estimated golf swing speed and club you use at the 150 yard marker are all combined to determined the custom golf club’s shaft flex that is appropriate for you. Custom fitting can fix your slice. If you slice the ball it means that the toe of the club is leading into the ball which opens the face of the club. That could be caused by a swing fault, but it could be because the club is too flat. So when in the custom fitting process you can make the custom golf club more upright to help with this. This will mean that the toe of the club will be slightly off the ground at address to compensate. There are different ways of fitting according to custom golf club dealers but ultimately they are all trying to improve your game. To start with simple measurements such as wrist-to-floor, height and hand size are taken and will point you to the right size club and at what angle it should be to the ground. Then you will take a club and hit some balls. One method is to place impact tape on the bottom of the custom golf club and an impact board on the floor. As you hit the ball the board will leave a mark on the tape showing whether the heel or the toe of the custom golf club is striking the floor first. The resulting mark will show whether the club face needs to be flatter or more upright. Then things get a bit more advanced. Analysis equipment can measure everything from your club speed to the side spin of the ball so that you can get maximum distance from your shot. You should also measure the launch angle of the ball, how much backspin you generate and impact efficiency – all which affect distance. The angle in which the custom golf club approaches the ball and the sidespin of it can help fix your game too. Rather than bringing down your old clubs, it might be better to start from scratch. It’s a big mistake to think that custom fitting is only for the best golfers. Almost anyone will benefit. If you consider to upgrade a new set of clubs from the same manufacturer they may be able to adjust your old set to become custom golf clubs. Custom fitting won’t cure all your bad shots. Some regural coaching will sort that out. Once you first made a good swing, then the custom golf club will arrive correctly at impact and should produce a straight shot at your target. Only that factor will already save you shots during a round. Lastly, custom fitting is often free of charge. But it is usually on the condition that you buy some golf clubs once you’ve been fitted. So it really depends on what your budget is. If you’re prepared to buy a new set of clubs it’s definitely worth getting fitted. Did you find the above tips useful? PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
The tour profiled MP-52 integrates a discreet pocket cavity for an uncompromising balance of shot-making and forgiveness. There are two differences that you would notice about this iron: First, the company’s “Cut Muscle” design of the last several years is missing, replaced with a very different “Dual Muscle” technology. Second, with the MP-52, Mizuno set out to make a more forgiving MP iron. The MP line has always been the domain of low and lower-mid handicappers. They have a reputation as being workable while providing a lot of feedback. Keeping up to those standards with a forgiving club is a bit of a tall order.
Twin crescents milled into the MP-52 deepen its Centre of Gravity – increasing stability from off centre hits, while remaining hidden at address. Forgiveness and workability are to a large extent at opposite ends of the same spectrum. Creating playable irons that meet the needs and preferences of better golfers is a gutsy undertaking for a company with a solid reputation among lower handicappers.
Mizuno bills its new MP-52 irons as the most playable MP irons ever, and that seems to be an accurate assessment. The MP-52s bridge the gap between the MX and MP lines. There’s an awful lot to like in these irons. The irons should be forgiving enough to be played successfully by 20-handicappers, yet workable enough to be played by a 5-10 handicapper as well.
PROS:
MP-52 offers good compromise of workability, feel, and forgiveness. Consistency and ability to work the ball is far better. Nothing feels forced when trying to draw or fade it.
CONS:
We could not find any prevelant cons with these irons.
Recommended for:
They are aimed to attract those mid handicappers who have always felt that previous MP models were not forgiving enough for them.
Continue Reading »Beginners Guide To The Different Golf Club Types
I’ve lived on a golf course for 20 years and you would think through osmosis I would know the different types of golf clubs. It wasn’t until recently when I started playing golf where I learned the purpose of the various clubs. If you’re a beginner like me, let’s get to know what each of the golf clubs are for and when to use them. There are 3 material types of golf clubs: Woods, Irons, and Hybrids. Some will say Wedges and Putters are types also but for this article I’m including them as sub-types because of their specific use. Woods, Irons, and Hybrids Woods are golf clubs whose club heads were initially made of wood. Today there are also made of metal like steel or titanium alloy and still go by the name of woods. A woods golf club has a fat club head and the club’s main purpose is for hitting the golf ball off the tee or down the fairway. Irons are golf clubs which have flat club heads that are made of metal. Besides hitting the golf ball off the tee or down the fairway, an irons most useful purpose is to get the golf ball into the air and over obstacles like trees or lift the ball out of grass. Hybrid golf clubs have metal club heads that combine the best features of woods and irons. Their combined features make them more forgiving to amateur players. Hybrids usually replace the 2-5 irons. Club Head Numbers Aside from specialty golf clubs like wedges and putters, golf club heads are numbered 1 through 11. The lower the number, the taller the golf club, the club head face has a steeper sloping angle, and the golf ball travels farther. The higher the club head number gets, the golf club gets shorter, the club head face has a lesser sloping angle so the golf ball goes steeper into the air, and the golf ball flies less distance. Of the same club head number, woods are taller than irons and hybrids, has a steeper club face angle, and hits the golf ball farther. Typically golf professionals use a 1 wood, also known as a driver, on their tee shot to hit the golf ball as far as they can down the fairway. For recreational players, it’s best to use higher numbered clubs because they’re shorter and much easier to control your golf swing. Wedges and Putters Wedges are irons that are used for lifting your golf ball out of grass, sand traps, and over obstacles like bunkers. There are 4 types of wedges: pitching, sand, gap, and loft. Depending on where the ball lies determines which club is best to use. But in the order I have listed, the club face angle gets less steep and the golf ball flies higher into the air at a steeper angle. You might use a pitching wedge to get the ball out of the grass next to the green. You don’t need a lot of lift, just enough to get over the grass and onto the green. On the other hand, if your golf ball is in a deep bunker next to the green, you would use a loft wedge to lift the ball at a sharp angle upward and over the bunker onto the green. The putter is primarily used when your golf ball is on the green and you’re shooting for the hole. The putter has 3 styles of club heads: traditional blade, heel-toe, or mallet. For beginners, the mallet is the preferred putter because its design makes it easier to hit the ball with greater success. If you’re thinking of taking up golf and haven’t purchased golf clubs, it’s best to start with beginners or starter golf club sets. These clubs provide the proper balance for you to learn and enjoy golf. David Johnson is getting to know the joys of golfing and learning how to improve his golf handicap.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
The all-new SZ irons for 2009 are ideal for golfers seeking superior distance, forgiveness and feel. They feature a progressive offset throughout the set, to make each iron as easy as possible to hit.
This iron is a nice clean iron head that will benefit the higher handicapped player that Cobra is known for. It’s thin top line, and thick wide sole accomplishes two things. First off the thin top line is very eye appealing, and as far as the sole is concerned it is very wide which will help any golfer get out of the thick rough with little effort.
The irons’ low-and-wide design is defined by key components: Their sleek, low-profile clubhead design and shortened hosel result in a low-and-back Center of Gravity (CG), while a wide sole and heel-toe weighting system helps achieve maximum Moment of Inertia (MOI). These attributes create forgiving irons that help golfers launch the ball higher and achieve pinpoint accuracy on their shots.
The wide sole – which is rounded from front to back – prevents digging into the turf. Together with the low profile create an extreme low-and-back CG and high MOI, for high launch, more distance and maximum forgiveness.
The Cobra SZ features a unique patent-pending sole design which keeps the clubhead centered and stable both at address and through contact. The SZ performance design is coupled with a urethane insert, layered across the back side of the entire face, which dampens unwanted vibration and gives great feel
PROS:
Cobra SZ offers high trajectory, forgiveness, distance and feel to any golfer, making it a favorite choice of many.
CONS:
We did not find any cons for these irons in our research.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Recommended for both amateurs and professional golfers.

The mechanics of golf demand precision and when the sun prevents you to strike from the right angle, then, you haven’t got the right equipment. And a golfer’s apparel is not complete without golf sunglasses. Besides personal comfort, such items allow for good club choices and strike efficiency. Without eye protection, you’d be squinting at the sun incapable to see where the ball reaches on the course. This may sound like an exaggeration but golf sunglasses are necessary no matter the weather: from bright sunshine to overcast days, the action of the ultraviolets will be less harmful. There are special features that you must recognize in golf sunglasses models before buying the right ones. The frames and the lenses could cause a lot of inconveniences if not well chosen. For instance, sunglasses for golf should have a snug fit on the face, without ruining personal comfort. Therefore, the frames ought to be flexible and light. Try the sunglasses on and see how you feel wearing them. Another important issue to consider here is the peripheral vision and the eye protection. Wind and debris could affect visual capacity, therefore, choose some frames that reduce the impact of such factors. The lenses have an even higher importance than the frames. Maximum protection against the UVA and the UVB: this is what you should find in a good pair of golf sunglasses. Try polarized lenses because they provide protection and reduce the glare. Professional players also have several pairs of golf sunglasses to wear depending on the weather. For instance, there are lenses that allow a superior visible light transmission, and they are ideal on overcast or partly cloudy days. Special features can also be incorporated in very professional golf sunglasses. Thus, besides the capacity to highlight shadows, such items prevent sweat or dirt from sticking to the lens surface. This considerably improves visibility and maintains it for a longer period of time. Nevertheless, you should also check the product instructions to learn how to clean golf sunglasses properly. Unless you are pro or someone who plays golf very often, you should carefully consider the budget, your needs and the extent at which you will wear the glasses. When playing golf only occasionally, there is no point in buying several pairs of golf sunglasses for alternate wear.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
The Cleveland Launcher is an absolutely fabulous value and a tremendous addition to any golfer’s bag. It has a massive titanium footprint with the back portion elongated to offer that promised high MOI., allowing generous room for miss-hits resulting in maximum forgiveness. With only a half millimeter in thickness, the new Launcher crown is the thinnest possible, moving every bit of potential weight low and deep to improve the center of gravity, optimize launch conditions and maximize distance. The horseshoe-shaped weight pad on the rear perimeter of the sole significantly improves launch conditions and stability on miss-hits by localizing weight low and deep, improving both MOI and center of gravity location.
The main point of difference with Cleveland’s previous Launcher is the removal of the scooped out crown that has been a feature of the HiBore range. The scooped out look has been binned and replaced with a more traditional crown that offers universal appeal. The sound off the face is inoffensive yet powerful and provides a medium trajectory.
PROS:
The huge head of the driver is a big confidence booster to those looking for solid dependability without the need to tweak weights, shafts and face angles in search of the optimum trajectory. This driver dwarfs the ball at address, but presents a very clean look, with none of the bulge and role found in other drivers. This encourages the golfer to think positively that the ball is heading ’straight’ down the fairway.
CONS:
Some players have complained about the size of the head not looking right and the high pitched impact sound being a little bit of a turnoff. You might need to change the grip since the original one feels a little hard and slippery. However, the main feature is the astonishingly difference in price. It is around $150 cheaper than its counterparts.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
This driver is suitable for both amateurs and professional golfers.
